Values, Character and Citizenship Education (VCCE)

Values, Character and Citizenship Education development usually occurs over a period of time within any environment.  As students progress through the school environment it is important that their education provides instructional opportunities, explicit and implicit that can help them to develop their character, beliefs, morals and values about right and wrong.

Citizenship

A good citizen is someone who respects others and their property.
He/she is helpful, considerate and willing to put others first.
He/she listens to the views of others and thinks about what they have to say.
He/she helps people who are not in a position to help themselves.
He/she respects the environment and does not damage it in anyway.
He/she works hard.
He/she is well mannered and pleasant.
He/she is always willing to learn

Respect

Respect for and acceptance of authority, including rules, in given circumstances.

Freedom of conscience and expression: the right to hold beliefs, whether religious, ethical or political, and to express their views in a respectful and orderly manner.

This Award IS Only Presented To Students Who Obtain Full Marks (100%) For VCC End Of Term

Students' overall attitude in class is continually assessed and a final mark is awarded at the end of the term in the area of VCCE (Values Character and Citizenship).

This mark contributes to their end of term test report score and usually makes a difference in the final grade of A, B, C, D, or F. For example, a child may be academically on top having passed all the end of term tests however their attitude in class is disruptive. As such, the VCCE mark which is out of 64, would reflect this and bring their score down from a grade A to a B or C. Vice versa if a child is average and doesn’t perform well on the end of term tests but they display a positive attitude, good manners, respect and obeys the rules then the VCCE mark would be high bringing them up from a grade C to a B or a Grade B to an A.

The Standard Three classroom is not based on academics only but rather the holistic development of the child who is well rounded and independent.

The development of these skills, attitudes and work ethics will enable them to practice self-regulation skills in preparation for National Test and SEA.
